County Approves Ban On Massive Solar Projects In Rural Residential Areas
Experiences with utility scale solar projects in Newberry has been less than agreeable considering the negative impact of the solar project on Mountain View, major drifting sand problems having almost buried adjacent residences not to mention the view obstruction and ground-cover damage created by massive multi-axis monstrosities. So the proposals to build utility scale mega-projects in both Newberry and Daggett have met with vehement opposition from local residents.
The same opposition to a multitude of similar projects also comes from residents in many other desert communities. So on February 28 at a special meeting the San Bernardino County Supervisors voted 4 to 1 to insert the original language of Policy 4.10, which essentially prohibits massive utility scale solar projects in rural residential areas, into the County General Plan.
Association Letter Disregarded
If there was any doubt that small water users are really considered unter menschen by government agencies like the Mojave Water Agency, that doubt evaporated with the publication of “Watermaster’s Lodging of Letters Received from Parties from the Baja Subarea Related to Status Conference of October 12, 2018”, our Association letter being conspicuously missing from that document.
The Return of the Countywide Plan
On Tuesday September 11, 6 to 8 P.M. at the Newberry Community Center, 30884 Newberry Rd., there will be another Countywide Plan presentation where Newberry Springs residents and businesses can express their opinions on draft plan goals, policies, and actions as well as the proposed new land use maps and other maps/tables related to such things as growth in population, housing, and employment. The Countywide Plan, a fork of the 2010 Countywide Vision continues to be a vision mainly for unincorporated areas like Newberry but can have significant impact on incorporated areas as well.
Local Mini-Sahara Moved
7/25/2018 - This week contractors removed much of the sand that was mounding, not only on Mountain View Road, but on residences directly opposite the Stace solar facility, one of which was being progressively buried by that sand. There had been a warning notice from San Bernardino County Code Enforcement to the owner of the facility to clean up that errant sand some months ago, threatening civil or criminal prosecution, but it still took some months for the owner to respond to that warning.
